Psychotherapy and Religious Faith

Thursday, November 9, 2017 |  7:00 to 8:30 PM

 Details

How can psychotherapists deal constructively with religious beliefs and practices that they may not understand or appreciate, but that may be important or even central in the lives of their patients?   Should psychotherapy and religion be competitors, collaborators or independent influences in helping people with emotional and behavioral problems? This discussion is meant to demonstrate how respect and compassion can bridge differences and make it possible for people who may not share the same worldview to nevertheless work together towards the goal of emotional healing.

Presenters:

Eugene Goldwater, M.D., Cert.Psya.

Continuing Education Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  1. Identify and better understand religious beliefs and practices that may affect the therapy.
  2. Discuss how religious beliefs may be seen as competitors or collaborators in treatment.
  3. Discuss how differences in worldviews may effect treatment.
